Teaching kids on the road

One of the biggest things to consider when you take to the road with young children is schooling. When you are planing your trip I can honestly say this is one of the biggest things you should consider.

There are afew different schools offering Distance Education in both the private and state system. And more than likely you will pay for your childs tuition, even in the state system. The State system has an exceptional course but it is time consuming. There is an expectation that you spend up to 4 hours a day on study this is fine for families who are learning from home but out on the road this is a little unrealistic.
I have found that it is easier to spend an hour or two in the morning and another hour later in the day, after all we are traveling Australia to see it not spend all our time in the caravan.

Our children are learning first hand about all sorts of things, we discuss distance and places on maps, history and geography, culture and science, they see and learn about lots of native animals and plants and we meet all sorts of wonderful people who have stories for the children and it teaches them how to communicate confidently with anyone. We intergrate reading and maths while we travel which makes it fun and helps keep them occupied on the long days of travel.

I will be very interested to see how they go when they return to school after our travels, my thinking is they will be way out in front. The best thing you can do for your children is to give them as many life experiences as you can and a trip around our beautiful country is one way to do that.

The last three weeks we have been focussing on our lesson time and even though I find it difficult to teach two lessons at once they are both flying through their work with ease. I must say they are getting a bit lazy not sure how they will go having to put in a whole day at school when they do return to normal life. :)

We are still refining our schedule as we have to make time for our business as well. But I wouldn't have it any other way we are truely grateful that we can all work and play together as we experience new places and share new adventures.
